Spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

Spinor Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) are quantum gases where the hyperfine spin F is a free variable.  They offer a rich arena for exploration since the spins can interact with one another as well as with external magnetic fields.    Read more—>

Quantum sensing

screen-shot-2016-12-14-at-2-44-53-pmAtom interferometers are exquisite sensors of inertial forces.  Their extreme sensitivity to accelerations finds applications in precision gravimetry, inertial navigation, and tests of the fundamental laws of physics.  We seek to improve the performance of atom interferometers to enable these applications, making them more sensitive, compact, and fieldable. Quantum Photonics: Interaction between single atoms and single photons

Entangling photons and atoms are the foundation for numerous quantum technologies like quantum computing and quantum information. We are trying to combine the miniature thermal atomic beam with SiN micro-resonators to achieve a strong interaction with photons in the cavity QED regime. Read more—>
